EXCERPT FROM THE STUDY

  1. Educational facilities such as school libraries, Instructional materials, adequate classrooms shelters, computer sets for teaching, practical materials, Internet /ICT facilities, projectors and Specimens as well as public address system which enables students with hearing problems to follow up in the lesson, promotes and facilitates effective teaching and learning processes, hence, any inadequacy in the provision and usage of any of these facilities would result to shallow academic performance of the students.
  2. Specifically, practical materials has a significant impact on students performance in Core subjects. This is evident upon the fact that it promotes the development of the skills needed to understand core science subjects effectively, it presents clear learning objectives for the piece of practical work, it also helps students  to reach and achieve the learning objectives of science inclined subjects easily, it facilitates portfolios and observation which ease the learning process, it relies on hands-on materials approach thereby making learning realistic for students and conveys teaching in the real sense of life thereby making learning simple.
  3. The school Laboratories on its own part has positive impacts on students performance in Practical subjects as well. Its potential contributions include; it enables students to get first-hand learning experience by performing various experiments on their own, it also interprets theoretical ideas into practical activities, hence improving students comprehension level, it makes learning process in practical subjects easy for students, as well as quips students with scientific observation making and measurement skills, and allows students to interact directly with the data gathered thereby getting them used to the basics. Hence, there is a significant relationship between school laboratories and students academic performance.
  4. Students academic performance in external examinations is a derivative of the impacts of instructional facilities. In essence, the availability instructional materials enables students to periodically refresh their memory, it aids students for proper preparation against examinations, the availability and use of textbooks promotes learning at students pace, it promotes extra studies for students, promotes effective teaching hence having positive impact on the extent of students’ preparation against external examines and it gives students free access to educative information, teacher guides and manuals, hence influencing their readiness for external examines. Therefore, there is a significant correlation between instructional facilities and students performance.
  5. The impact of classroom facilities like other educational facilities has a notable influence on students performance in class tests. Hence, poor access to mathematical equipment, inadequate availability of writing sheets, adequate availability of classroom desk, lack of chairs, lack of ventilation and inadequate writing board for displaying tests questions contributes significantly to students academic performance. Therefore, there is a significant relationship between classroom facilities and students performance in class tests.
